I'm sure once you've paid for a ps3 all theres left to do is enjoy it. Problem for me is putting down that much cash in one go and the psychology behind it.

I still don't see what's wrong with the price, seeing as it has a card reader, BD player, HDMI ad Wifi. The 360 Elite (with HDDVD) will cost $679, which is $80 more than a similar-spec PS3. That, and I payed 425 quid for my 360.

I though the 360 elite was only going to cost $479.

PS3 One day evaluation:
Where to start hmmmmmmm?
Shape/ Size/design
Design: Firstly to everyone who thinks the xbox design is an awkward and an ugly design, be grateful, be very grateful! The many jokes going around comparing it to one of these beasts (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4227638.htm) are now to my knowledge about as funny as mad cows disease at MacDonald's. Its is quite possibly the worst design of something that needs to be tucked away and kept safe. It has more nooks and crannies than a beehive and in a a few days will be the proud home of dustville.
In comparison of size and weight to the 360, it weighs easily twice as much. Its roughly the same size but with the clam shell design adds to the size. God knows why they cant just make consoles like dvd players?
When i first got my 360 i wanted to throttle the punk who made the two USB ports on the front harder to get to than the popular girl at school. Well i can know say, that punk will be second on my list. The USB ports on the front of PS3 are located right under the ridge [see fig 1.] So when the console is lying down flat, you have to make an effort of getting down on your knees or lowing your back and fumbling around underneath it to plug in the controller. Someone needs to loose there job over that!!! Apart from that the only outer face problem is the on/of and eject buttons which are ether meant to be be part time touch sensitive buttons of very lazy normal buttons. :/ These aside the design is gr...........................bad, very bad. Make sure you have the space, time, patience and have no know back problems!
The disc tray is interesting, with no cover and a slip and slide insertion thing i can see it attracting dust and major scratches to the discs.
I love it when company's/ people try to distant themselves from there competition. Like they are trying to make a statement. Well that's exactly what sony have done with the game boxes making them midget size, so they can easily fit in plush with the rest of your DVD/game collection <-----------------Insert Sarcasm tags.....
Noise
Anyone who hates the noise of the 360 will be glad to know the PS3 eradicates the noise almost completely, its like comparing the a bus to a bike :/. No problems in that department.
Controller:
Identical to the originals apart from the triggers, which are not really trigger but more a button you have to push for longer than a button.
Considerably a lot lighter, which can be a good or bad thing. Makes it feel cheap and you often forget it costs ?<------gay 30 and find yourself with your arm raised and pointed in the direction of your nearest wall.
Dashboard interface
Well. Anyone who has played on a PSP, which im guessing is most people should already know about the PSPS little dashboard. Well the PS3's is almost identical. For me it stands out above M$ dashboard.
Its simply a process of pressing right/left which in turn takes you to the next option, you can then go down or up and select what you want. Looks like this....
Videos--music--friends--settings--users--game saves--online play
| | | | | | |
games artists mike colour joe halo Playing GRAW2
| | | | | | |
films albums jane contrast max worms downloads
and so forth....... its simple easy, and a dam site more use able than the 360 clumsy dashboard.
Games:
Resistance: fall of man:
Well the GoW beater, killzone killer, whatever its been called is what most probably its not.
This feels like killzone, looks like killzone and plays like killzone.
Havn't really followed the story , but its the same old junk, aliens crash you have to go kill them and get the girl......
Linear missions, basically on the rails game play make this game an absolute bore.
It still holds that grainy PS2 look, with sharp jagged corners and looks nothing spectacular in SD or HD.
NBA home court :
Looks and plays like any other EA basketball game, but is lacking in the graphics and detail department.
Not much to say on both games, because they have nothing special, and to say that Resistance is as good or better as PDZ is an absolute lie!
I have motocross, but have yet to play it much to give any sort of evaluation on it.
Online play:
havn't played yet, but with no headset i doubt i will give this much attention till i get one.
Overall feeling: disappointed, confused and a small amount of love for what sony have done right! I have tomorrow free so im going to have a big old bash on-line.

That was probably the best post I have read in a long time. Thanks for that.
Some questions: what do you play your games on? HD or SD?
How well does the Sixaxis work?
Oh and shame that you failed your driving thing.

I have played it on SD and HD.
HD of course is a lot better.
I have no idea how the 6 axis thing works, as none of the games i have actually use it i think. I forgot about that because the controller is so light you would never think that axis think is in them.

Is this because they had that big lawsuit thing with the company who did the "Dual Shock" motors in the PS2 controllers?

Yep, although Sony has now settled and liscenced the technology so I expect we will see a Dual Shock PS3 controller in the coming months.

So people who bought the PS3 at launch will have to buy another controller just to get a rumble motor in it...... that's pretty sad and such a harsh way to treat your most valued customers
have they?
Indeed they have, Joystiq news piece (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/01/sony-and-immersion-reach-settlement-feel-good-vibrations/)

I didnt know they finally settled with Immersion, pig headed ****sers or what?
Rumble isnt next gen oh and rumble won't be possible with SIXAXIS technology.
Just wait, like Sub says Sony will be here to "Innovate" and "lead" with the first controller with rumble and tilt...
[Terms and conditions apply: Wii's wand does not count as a controller because it doesnt until we 'sony' say so, neither does that thign that came out for MS, or the countless other rumble/tilt devices on the market, it is an innovation and we created it mmkay?]

Never mind that rumble and motion sensing have already been done before eh? ;)
PS1 wasn't it? Pelican I think made it, certainly remember it showing up on many gaming sites when Sony said it wouldn't be possible to have rumble and motion in the same pad.

You may be thinking of the massive heap of crap that was the Airpad (?I bought mine brand new for ?2!)
In terms of how th SIXAXIS works, I'd have to say disappointingly. There are precious few times where I have thought 'wow, what a good idea!' when playing using the SIXAXIS. The best use of it is during Resistance (which, BTW, is MUCH better than Killzone, and on a par with Halo 1), when a 'monster' jumps up onto you and you thrash the (****ing light) controller around to 'shake him off', as it were. Another good use of it is gear-shifting in Ridge Racer 7. RR7 is disappointing, but the jerking of the controller to get in to 5th shows promise (however, it's currently a bit clunky and awkward). I don't know why people keep comparing the feature to the majestic Wiimote, as the 2 technologies play VERY different roles in the games they play. And yes. Yes I do miss rumble. A lot.
The noise that comes out of the thing is miniscule, if you can even hear it. The slot-loading tray is quiet, and even during loading - a time when my 360 drowns out the noise of nearby traffic - is silent.
What most of you call the 'Dashboard', Sony calls the 'Xross Media Bar' or XMB for short. First shown on the failing PSX, the technology was scraped together for use with the PSP due to the ability to access something quickly and efficiently. After a glimpse at the annoying Dashboard interface on the 360, Sony decided to take the XMB into the 7th generation.
At first glance, I thought 'how lazy', and it left huge gaps on the 32" TV I was playing on. But after just a few minutes playing around with it, I fell in love with the XMB all over again. I haven't tried the PlayStation STORE (I wasn't connected to the Internet at the time), but the interface looks very similar to the XBLM, with a few of those annoying screen-filling messages that the PSP web browser has.
One thing that annoys me greatly about the 360 is how easily the Guide button can accidentally be pressed mid-fragging. The PS3 cures this by making you hold the PS button for about a second before any menus show up. Hold it another second, and you'll get the option to turn off the system or shut off your controller (no stealing from Microsoft there at all). After I first got used to this, I now have a rather incurable habit of holding down the guide button for a while before realising that nothing's going to pop up until I release it.
The 360 is heavy. No doubt about that. The big proprietary AV port can be annoying, and the fiddly little flap to get to the powered USB ports is incredibly annoying, and very fragile. Think of those minor issues, double them, add fingerprinty gloss black to the equation and - bam - you have the PS3. It's so heavy I'd be scared to put it in a lift. When plugging in the AV plug - a design that I've used on PlayStations for 10 years - I still put it in upside down at first. It reminds me of trying to plug a USB device into the back of a PC. Of course, PCs solve this with some USB ports on the front. Sony decided to copy this, but not before they created a surface so hard to reach you have to physically lift the console to see. Honestly, why didn't they stick the ports in the card reader flap? Oh, and if you're buying a PS3, buy some alcohol wipes. You'll use them a lot on the shiny shiny face.
But by far the worst insignificant minor annoyances are the power and eject buttons. WHY AREN'T THEY BUTTONS? Anyone who has played with an LG Chocolate (or a PS3, for that matter) will know what I'm talking about. You rest your finger on the graphic and it turns on/off, or ejects a disc. I seriously don't know what the hell Sony were thinking of when they put these damn annoying fiddly little shits in, but someone needs choking for that.
Anywho, that's it for the rant. I don't own a PS3, I've just played someone else's. And picked it up, and stuff. I'm still going to buy one, though.
Azure

Word of warning you don't actually want alcohol wipes, they will more than liekly take the finish off the console.
