i've been thinking about this, how about, pro settings, and to make it totaly random each play picks a number, in turn, so the map is totaly random, as not to give anyone the advantage. which would mean a mic is a must, but that should be a rule because how would you totaly humiliate an opponent with a prod, if he could'nt hear you !

- Limited ropes (2 max)
- Limited jetpacks (2 max)
- No airstrikes
- Homing missile on 4 round delay

That should do it!

why do you need any more than 2?! the maps in this version are too small for ropes as it and they end up completely ruining the game

you're joking, right?!

games don't go to sudden death for one of two reasons then:
1) the time limit is something stupid like 30 mins
2) everyone has too many ropes and jetpacks and they go round dropping mines on people's heads

everyone has lost the art of bazooka's and 1 second grenades... :(

Too right, I played a few games of this the other day, one guy spent the entire match blow torching and 'girdering' himself and the other player decided it would be a good idea to just kamikaze each of his worms and hope for the best.

I do abuse the ninja rope - but only for better positioning and to get crates (banana bombs are worth the effort)... the jet pack I can't quite get my head around at the moment, so I tend to use the shotgun, rocket launcher and grenades where possible.

I'll be entering this and most likely winning it as well. ;)

We shall see who comes out on top ! not to blow my own trumpet or anything but im pretty good at this game.

the problem with setting up your own game settings is, you have to get everyone to create the same settings, so why not just pick one of the many allready available to us. someone chickens out and runs, then thats up to them, and upto you to stop them and DESTROY THEM!

That's fair enough but when you have unlimited ninja ropes, 45 second round times and relatively small maps it becomes a bit tiresome - all you get is *swing* *swing* <collect medic kit> *swing* *swing* <collect crate> *swing* *swing* <drop dynamite / mine> *swing* *swing* <hide>

it destroys what i always thought worms is about, which is people having pops at each other across a half-destroyed map after all your power weapons have gone. sorry to bleat on about it, but i'm a bit of a purist when it comes to worms!

We shall see who comes out on top ! not to blow my own trumpet or anything but im pretty good at this game.
that's the beauty of worms - it's largely about luck especially when playing with 4 teams. I've lost count of the amount of times this weekend that i've been down to 1.5 worms and not even had a turn!

the problem with setting up your own game settings is, you have to get everyone to create the same settings, so why not just pick one of the many allready available to us. someone chickens out and runs, then thats up to them, and upto you to stop them and DESTROY THEM!
it takes about 2 minutes to create a scheme - and not everyone has to have it saved, just the host.

i don't mind using a pre-defined scheme but i just hope we don't have unlimited ropes or jetpacks - Full Wormage could be a scheme to use (but still slightly bad cos it has Air Strikes), or Professional.

if it's 1 vs 1 then i doubt i'll be playing. head to head is soooo dull on Worms. Worms is the *one* game on XBL that can claim to be good, honest, proper fun - it should continue that way too.

Then your 360 must be completely pony - i've played many a 4 player Worms game and it works fine. Except for last night when it appeared that the whole thing was generally broken.

btw forget that I mentioned Full Wormage earlier - it has unlimited ropes :(

HOWEVER...

I've realised the "issue" I have with ropes, is not actually an issue with ropes - it's an issue with levels that have ceilings. As said before the maps are just too small - basically with ropes and ceiling if your Worm has <=50 health and it's not your turn then you're dead. booooooooo.

So, how do decide on what maps are good? I may do some tinkering tonight and take some screenshots... (also, is it or me or am I the only one that is *really* excited by event?!?)

am I the only one that is *really* excited by event?!?)

No looking forward this, when I get broadband back  . totally agree with limited ropes or just not having any levels with ceilings.

I also like the good old days where bazookas and grandes where the most used weapon. There nothing more satisfying than hitting / killing half way across the screen with a bazooka, using the wind, etc. I used to be awesome at this, but alas not so good now - to easy to use other weapons.

Its not me who has the extreme problem of hosting, as i said mine does almost every time, cormac for the first week couldnt host or join one. so he could'nt get his achiefment.

I do have a problem with the 1vs1vs1vs1, not only is it unfair , it will cause more problems than the 10/20/30 sec's GOW . im fine either way, which ever "you choose".

If this is a tourny, it would make it unfair. its the reason we play PGR with collisions off. because otherwise it would be unfair, and turn the competion into a sham.

no, it's still not unfair - unfair implies that someone has something that another person doesn't (or does) have. when all rules are equal then it is not unfair. go get a dictionary and find a better word.

and i believe the reason why collisions were turned off for PGR was to:
a) stop people whinging like *****es that "so-and-so rammed me on purpose"
b) because with PGR it's pretty much the person who gets round the 1st corner in first that wins the race.

Mazzy
28-03-2007, 03:43 PM
Indeed, but just translate that reasoning to worms.

If it is to be 1vs1vs1vs1 someguy will no doubt do some complaining that he got ganged up on.

Do as you please, im just adding my two cents to the disscusion about worms. not spamming. report me if you feel that is what im doing.

Morgan90

I suppose thats true, however people will complain that there was a reason they lost for most things, no way around that...

Mazzy
28-03-2007, 03:51 PM
Yeah, but they would have nothing to complain about if it was 1vs1. and the overall winner would not be the lucky bugger, but the guy who is actualy very good at worms.

lets have two worms tournies, one for fun ,4 players and one , 1 on 1. not at the same time of corse.

KONSPIRACY

My suggestion which should make everyone happy...

Players are split into groups/leagues of 4.
Each player plays 4 fixtures as follows:

Each player plays each other once (1v1).
3pts awarded for a win.
One group game (1v1v1v1).
3pts awarded for a win, 2pts for 2nd, 1pt for 3rd

This is spose to be a fun tournament so why not have the best of both worlds?

I think it should be 1v1v1v1 as Worms is meant to be fun, and is most fun with lots of carnage. 1v1 can get boring as it is more likely someone will run away and the game will be decided simply through usage of teleports etc. Oh, and i know at least 2 other people that want to enter - so where do we sign up?

I can see how a 4 player game could be demmed unfair (although it not) when your the last person to have his go and where 2 of your worms have already been killed. Hopefully you would hope everyting evens itself out, but nothing is guarntee, but then you know this is part of the game before you start, irrotanting yes, un fair - not really.

I think Kons idea is a good one (and happy to go with what ever), but I find 1v1 can get a little boring (like previously mentioned. My preference is to play 4, 4 player games. With regards to my point above, 'who's turn it is. I'm sure that it can be made fairer, by the use of skip goes, so 1 player isn't penalised by going last all the time.

So you lose a couple of worms...
It can work to your advantage as their turns come round quicker then.

Also 1v1, 1v1v1v1? both are riddled with luck. So neither is unfair TBH.

Weapon drops and worms start positions are entirely random and down to pure chance.

Do you go to the bookies when you lose a bet and complain it's unfair. Or what about when you get a crappy hand in poker, do you demand your buy in back.

You'd lose a kneecap. It's just pure entertainment. Any old jammy bugger could win. Thats what worms is about.

If you don't like it then go play chess or summat

yeah, that seems a very workable idea and should provide much fun! I'm guessing this idea will also depend on numbers registered?

Rules: I am fully for the "Ranked" group - it's certainly the most skillful pre-defined rule set, and only consists of one round. Would you make the 1 vs 1 best of three? In which case we'd need to create a custom rule set...

Maps: Anything that doesn't have a roof :D

EDIT: I'm also presuming that glitches like the mine / rope / dynamite glitch are ruled out? What about upside down rope usage? Cos technically that's not a glitch, just very sneaky!

Yeah that's maybe true if it were 4 players in a match but with 1v1 i find that best of three usually ends up running for a decent time - not too long, not too short. The problem with one round is you can get shafted by the Worm Gods and it's all over before you know it!

Come on Tugs - spill the beans! What rules would you like?

Nooooooooooooo, 1v1 is boring and ranked rules are simply bad. No banana bomb, no sheep, 5 airstrikes!? Cmon! 1v1v1v1 with a custom set of rules.

I suggest mine - 60 second turns, 15 minute rounds, retreat time 3. Weapons = unlimited bazooka, 2 homing missiles, unlimited grenades, 1 clusterbomb, 1 bananabomb with a delay of 1, 1 dynamite, 1 airstrike with a delay of 3, unlimited shotgun, 1 uzi, 3 firepunches, unlimited dragonball, unlimited prods, 2 blowtorches, 3 mines, 1 sheep, unlimited kamikaze, 3 ropes, 2 girders, 1 jetpack, 2 teleports.

I'd go with the majority of Munky's ideas, but with the following changes:

45 second turns - 60 is just too long especially with quite small maps. I would say 30 is plenty but I guess it wouldn't be too popular...

10 minute rounds - for 1v1, or 15 for > 1v1

1 homing missile - thinking of it in weapons vs worm health terms, 2 missiles means you could take 90% damage off one worm with very little skill. I would also be tempted to have a delay of 2.

1 bananabomb with a delay of 3 - if you have it relatively early in the game it's very easy to just drop the bomb next to someone, easy kill. At least with a delay there is a chance people would've moved about some and you'll have to actually throw it. Personally I'd prefer it if it wasn't in there at all and you had to rely on finding them in crates.

2 mines - lazily dropping a weapon next to someone is dull. Worms should be about skill in aiming "stuff".

1 sheep with a delay of 2 - having it right at beginning makes sending people off the map way too easy.

2 ropes - see point above about having to aim stuff.

0 jetpacks - jetpacks are horrible UNLESS you're playing one of those stoopid maps where it's split horizontally into two.

How do we decide what map-types we play on? Needs to be discussed because from the games I've played online so far people have very different tastes and you could spend ages just trying to get a game started!

Pretty much like most of Munky's & mooses idea, but I would change the following to:

- 30 second turn - stops roping across to pick up health etc
- No Banana Bomb (for reasons Moose & Kon have said)
- 1 of each of the ropes, jet packs, teleport, girders, blow torch

The first 2 ideas i'm not to fussed about, but the last point I think would make for a much more interesting game, no hiding baracading in, but with enough to get out of a tight spot.

there you go - no difference between the two, expect turn time and number of rounds. Pro ftw.

Cheers mate.

Havent played it on pro settings yet...how does the number of rounds work? As in...does it end after 3 rounds even if 3 of the 4 players are on 1 each? Obviously we need to have at least first to 2 otherwise it'd be pointless. Could do with it being tested if you got time. ;)

It's first to 2 - so 5 games could be played total.

edit: i'll double check tho' :)
