Yes my xbox seems to be ****ed.
When playing a game, any game, about a minute into playing it, the console will make a weird noise, the screen will freeze and the red rings appear, not good.
Now i bought this second hand from spindryer who lives wayyyyy down south and he bought it on release so that warranty is finished. I obvs cant take it back to the shop i got it from, so is microsoft my only option?? and how much does it cost?
joda
Are all four quarters of the ring lighting up red?

If it was made in 05 then you get a refurbished console - doesnt matter if the 12 month warrenty was run out because M$ admitted they made a problem with the launch consoles and will replace them if they brake.

No I seem to remember hearing that it's over here in UK aswell, they will repair any first batch console free of charge. Don't quote me on that though.

No, im pretty sure it's worldwide. They don't give you a new one just a refurbished one. I got a refurbished console when my 06 console had the 3 red lights, it works and looks fine so i can't complain.
How can you tell if you have recieved a refurbished console? Does it have a certain production date or come in a certain type of packaging?

I would hope that they would tell you.
I would hope that they would tell you.
Well I recieved what looked like a brand new console in the green packaging etc but I just wanted to know if there is anyway you can tell and if i can expect it to die on me again.

Unless Spin still has some sort of proof of purchase. Plus if he bought it from a big chain like Game, you might be able to return it to your local branch. Probably worth asking him, I'm sure he'd be more than happy to help.

Ahh now that’s where im more pimp than the average seller, as i sent my original receipt out with the 360 and also have a back catalog of emails confirmations of the 360 being pre-ordered. I can forward these to you no-problem buddy if you want but the receipt should be more than enough.
If i can help at all just let me know and I’ll do what i can.

right... Contacted ms support. They went through the usual tests with me, power supply, hard drive bla bla bla.
Once he believed it wasn't working he asked for credit card details, i asked about refurbished console thingymebob, he told me there was a bit of truth to this in after the date of expiration of the warranty there was an extra 60 days put on, which wasn't long enough to cover me. So all in all it's gonna be 83 quid apparently to get it fixed :(.
Haven't given go ahead yet as am still lookin at other ways to get around this.
but still ****ing 83 quid just cos microsoft ****ed up the console, thankss.

Ive said this somewhere else, buy one from argos and put the old broken xbox in the box, and then have your mum or some woman take it back to the shop. im telling you they will take it back, say some some BS like it was a gift but he had it blah blah. save you 80quid.

yeah, i did it with my dreamcast. you want to save 80quid. do it.
its gota be mint tho, clean yours up real good. then you need to replace all the little stickers perfect. just incase they look in the box.
the seril number is on the xbox it self, and theres a cut out hole, so theres no way of them knowing that you have switched them, other than if theres dust or something on it.
yours is ****ed, and if they refuse, well you have a new xbox, rather than a referbed one, check out mutlys thread, and see which one you want.

Mazzy
19-03-2007, 09:56 PM
no, the xbox serial is on the xbox it self, so theres no way of them knowing you have switched them. the dreamcast on the other hand had a sticker of the serial number on the box, so i just switched the disc drives round and took the new one back but with the broken part.
just buy it, switch the xbox, try to replace everything as it is, becasue once you take something out of a box, it never goes back in right.

Most things we sell are covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee. Just return them to any store, unused, in their original undamaged packaging, in a saleable condition, along with the receipt* and we'll give you a refund.
From the horses mouth. As long as it can be sealed, and you have the recipt, then they can't refuse a refund.

but for now, sleepy sleepy time.

If a product is excluded from our 30-day money-back guarantee, it is clearly marked by a † next to the product name in the catalogue and on this website.
And the 360 is marked by one of dem :/

no he has said to just try and get a refund as if it was an unwanted gift, which means they could turn around and say that we should of known they wouldn't want it before they buy it - (which is what they can do according to their policy).
I want to put my broken xbox in the new xbox's box and go and ***** about them selling me a shitty product. This would mean they would have to test the thing, whether or not they'd check the serial number is another thing.
IcemanLeigh
23-03-2007, 12:38 PM
Ah I see. Its possible, but much riskier like that. Most places would more than likely have someone to test the product and check that you rnt trying to pull a scam. After all, why would you want a refund? Surely in that situation you would want a replacement..
I think that getting your mother or other female relative to go in is a far better idea, and try to claim it as an unwated gift that they bought. It sounds silly but women are likely to be suspected less and trusted more when returning a games console. Especially if they claim that it wasnt for them since then they cant answer any questions about it..
Retro
23-03-2007, 12:38 PM
I dont think they would. I once brought a DVD recorder from argos, the next day it stopped working, so i just stuffed everything back into the box, even forgot to put the remote back in, gave it to my mum who took it to argos and cooked up a fuss and according to her they didnt even check the contents of the box and gave her a refund on the spot! I could have just replaced it with a brick.
All you need is a angry old person, a crowd of waiting customers, and bingo a very flusterd argos cashier.

Honestly, its all about the mothers! My mum complained to microsoft that they kept sending us shitty 360's that were still broken after ours broke.. A week later they had replaced ours with a new one for a straight swap at our own door, and then sent ours back fixed properly..
Obviously im pretty sure that this was an accident.. but still get your mum to complain.. Mine got us 2 360's.. ;)

let me clear this up,
Buy an xbox, replace the new xbox with your old one, and return the broken one in the new packaging as an unwanted gift.
thats why i say argos. they wont argue as long as its a woman takeing it back.
the problem with the "this shitty xbox dont work" way, it will look shifty if you want a refund. why would u buy an xbox return it and say its broke, but want a refund and not a replacement ?

Thing with argos is that they said u cant take take it back as an unwanted gift, they said this to me mum.

Brought home and took just console out of box. Now my main worry about the whole thing was the serial number. So obviously it is different to the one which will be returned. But i could not find any sign of the serial number in any of the other documentation, on the box, on the receipt etc.
Firstly do you think they would of recorded this information. And secondly would they really take the time to check everything out at asda?

It worked like a peach.
Sent me ma to asda, she bought a premium xbox with cash as usual.
When she brought it back, took out the brand new xbox. Removed the stickers on infrared port and disc tray and attached em to my old xbox. I then placed my old xbox back in the bag, and back into the box.
Coupla days later me mum took the box back with the receipt, told them she didn't want it. The guy had a quick check to see if the xbox was in there. He then asked me mums name, she gave him a fake one. He refunded, i rejoiced.

Ah, I just got a new 360 from GAME. It helps having a housemate who used to work there and knows all the managers who was also the one who bought it.
I didn't have the receipt [my housemate is forgetful and lost it on the day of purchase and paid cash], but it was tracked with the reward card.
So I've got a new 360 which has been returned then rebought, so I've got another year's warranty and a receipt. Plus they chucked another year's warranty on top. GAME's own warranty.
