View Full Version : [Firefox] speed up web browser speed

ok here it is ^_^ 3 easy steps
1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.
If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

Should this not be in the 'worth a read' section?
Innes gives useful tips but puts them in the wrong section :P
Can anything like this be done to Opera or IE etc?

Is there any way this can mess up your computer/Firefox?Nope, only the computer at the other which is getting harrased by requests to send the page out to you.

That was more than a year bump!
Anyways, I used to have this, but it's made FF really unstable with the latest releases. It kept hanging when loading sites which was resolved once I reversed it. That's on Vista.

why dont they just ship FF with this as standard :s
Pirate Balloon
10-08-2008, 05:22 PM
Because as i said, it send out loads more requests to the severs and if everybody did this then the servers would be choked and expierence badwidth issues.

Yeah, I used it for a week, but then I decided to go back to good ole FF. It has some nice features (mainly just the click and drag tabs into/out of seperate windows, and stealth mode), but FF has a lot more features *at the moment* via plugins. Give Google chrome like a year, and it will probably be better! Or maybe somebody will make a plugin for FF to give it all the google chrome features :P

more than likely, chrome si only in beta. i find it faster than otrher browesers aswell not only in displaying pages but the program as a process aswell. it seems to open up snappily and quite efficient.
