Yes thats right, microsoft had reached its sale's target for 10 million xbox console's sold by the end of 2006, which it did quite easily. selling around 10.4 million. they have also added that by the end of 2007 they are aiming to have sold 20 million, which with the release of halo 3 sometime in the near future, im sure they will easily beat that target aswell, even with the ps3 being released.

Perhaps however there will probably be alot more games that Japanese gamers will want to purchase released this year. On top of that we get our first lot of RPG goodness and other games that, hopefully, will restore my faith in the 360 again lol.

Wih more games and perhaps a price drop or 360 revision alot more consoles will eb shifted, i expect there will be a price drop for this fall to hit back at the PS3 christmas sales.

Time will tell but I think the Wii's gunna overtake the 360 by Q2-3, it's just so much cheaper. It's expected to have sold 4 million already, didn't see MS doing that by Jan 2006. I mean nobody expects this to last much longer but the 360 had to work pretty hard for all it's sales with the lack of killer established brands.

As for Halo lets not forget that it's only 16th in highest sales of all time below AAA titles by Sony / Nintendo and of course Valve. Since were seeing killer titles from all the big 3 Halo's success just might be caught short by much longer running francises much higher up in that table.

Surely 20 million is a very, very ambitious target, unless there is a significant price drop in the near future (or has that already happened in other countries?) Halo 3 will be massive, but now they have competition (one cheaper console, and one "better" console in terms of power and stuff (I know nothing about this so I'm just going by what I've heard), surely 20 million would be incredible?

20 milllion i dont think is that far out there. i would say that when halo 3 comes out, that will increase sale and probably sell 5mill right there. we are talking world wide here, and to hit a target of 20 million sold (in total) isnt that far out there. infact i think they will smash that target. especially with halo, hell even cnc might convert some pc players to the box, its not just a one trick pony now.

I think weve overestimating the MS brand TBH.

Firstly they have even less chance of pulling Japan now the Wii and PS3 are out. Japanese are very xenophobic and really dislike all the Americanised games that the 360 makes it's name with. Capcom's 360 efforts have been heavily westernised due to the unsuccessfulness of the 360 in Japan. History shows us only Nintendo and Sony can satisfy this market.

Sure Lost Oddessy and Blue dragon sold well over there even though they were practically giving them away. A 360 sold in Japan is worth a bigger loss or less money pocketed by MS than in the US or UK. Still, a sale is a step towards cracking Japan in MS's eyes and a statistic towards this 20 million.

Also let's look at where these first 10 million came from, how many people have had 2 or more 360's? Ie they sold it at launch and bought another later this year. Look at your friend lists, how many lack a 360? how many on this forum lack one? MS has simply sold 360's to xbox owners. While it has this market cracked and loyal since Halo2 branching out is something else, something Nintendo...

Let's put it another way, most of my mates who wern't getting a 360 till Halo 3 have picked one up this xmas. Giving MS that huge surge in sales. Halo 3 won't sell as many xbox's as your expecting, certainly not 5 million. Then again my mates don't = all gamers.

360 was the only next gen console available and people who bought one in 2005 did so because they couldn't wait till next gen, well it's here and now there is more choices. This will effect sales, sure MS launching before the others could be enough to give it a lead it can keep for the next 5 years but look at the Wii it's sold 4 million already! MS wouldn't have sold that even if it had been in stock over xmas 2005.

MS has saturated itself to a degree like with it's windows platform, selling more is now a matter of pulling customers away from Sony, something MS was able to do with Sony's silly missteps. I truely believe Sony has handed MS a huge opportunity and they now have the ability to run with it that they didn't have for most of 2006 with the lack of good games and buss phrases 'im waiting for a ps3/wii'.

Hell, I don't know the answers but I think people are going to be suprised when Halo3 doesn't increase the xl attach rate and force people into the 360 buying frenzy we saw this year. Halo 3 may sell 5 million or more but it won't get people to pick up that many 360's.

exactly and with the ps3 being delayed, that generated some sales. and even when it gets released, only die hard ps3 fans will get one on release day. which only a handfull will be able to get them, due to stock. and by xmas time not only will the 360 have halo3, whats to stop Ms droping the price of the 360. im pretty sure this year there will be a price drop and that has to generate even more sales.

I think it may be a realistic goal. Let's look at what the Xbox 360 has had on it so far......A few drivers, a ton of shooters, and a few RPGs (correct me, if I'm wrong on that, that's just all I've been seeing.). Not looking at a great mix of games there are we? So maybe once the RPGs come in, a lot more people will be interested in the console. I also know people will be waiting for the price to drop.

If anyone needs a reason to pick up a 360 then here are a few.

Virtua fighter 5, Grand theft Auto 4, Blue dragon, Bioshock, Mass effect, Assassin's Creed, Lost planet, Halo 3, Command and Conquer 3, Forza motorsport 2, Fable 2 the list goes on and on.

When adding these games into a factor that consists of, dead rising, oblivion [took GOTY award], gears of war and a whole heap of assorted other EA crap that people love then the 360 becomes compelling against the competition.

Sony might be "Out" but not til March [I suspect may] in Europe and the price is still unconfirmed [Means they are working out how tight a shaft fest they can make it]!

I do not think they will struggle getting 20 million I think 25 million is acheivable, I thoroughly believe with PS3s scaling problems and lack of software, coupled with development largely going multiplatform or migrating to 360 that for every other person picking up a ps3 they will think "It isnt all that" and trade it for a 360. Keep in perspective that on the grand scheme of things 20 million console sales is still pretty much feck all worldwide, they need to beat 20 million, not aspire to it.

I'm sorry but the GTA games were a terrible series for me the only one I was mildly interested in was GTA 3. I hated the graphics, gameplay, weapons, locations and the music bar several fake advertisements, the only thing that I liked was the story line in GTA 3.

you are one person. a drop in the ocean. just cos you didnt like them, doesnt mean anything, millions of others do, and thats why millions will be buying the next one, and i agree with azure, makes the xbox more promesing than the ps3 with games like this on the system, the ps3 fanboys are running out of games to say "yeah but we got......" open your eyes, the ps3 is loseing some of there best lineup of games to the 360. so the xbox will become more apealing to more people.

Well i agree with him about GTA being rubbish. Ok GTA 3 was fun the first time round but seriously, it went downhill from there. Its like oh i can all the same stuff again with different people. Lost its appeal very quickly for me. The only reason after playing GTA that i played GTA 3 was the fact it went 3D if it had not been for that and both titles were on the ps2, i woud of been playing the same game still and in some respects you still are.

Yep I hate all those games you just listed, there nothing more than trash to me.

I will admit however multiplayer deathmatch on GTA Vice City over lan was fun in 6th form, chasing someone in a car down a street with a helicopter does have its appeal. Also modding to have real cars / back to the future car and kit was good too.

It's easy enough, I like mercaneries / destroy all humans / Zelda (first free roaming series) Jak and Daxter 2 / Dead rising
