Got my 360 back from repairs 3 weeks back (duff disc tray). Been using it no bother until the other day. It froze on me while playing SC Double Agent, made a beeping sound and a few graphical glitches apeared in the shape of transparent grids. seemed ok afterwards and I mannaged to complete the game after a few hours of play. Been playing GoW the last couple of nights, and its doing it so much I cant even finish a game online.

Anyone clued up on this? The only thing thats changed is the adition of the HD DVD player. I really would like to avoid sending it back for repairs again.

Sounds like it's overheating, if you are getting graphical glitches then the GPU is most likely over heating, try moving your console to a better ventilated area and make sure the power supply isn't jammed into a corner with no ventilation either.

I'll try it a different spot. But I've had it in the same spot for over a year. I'll report back after more extensive testing.

360 has better ventilation when placed horizontally (altough some reports indicate that a vertical positioning will not scratch discs as easily).

I'm not sure if I have similar problems, but CoD3 jams many times after hours of playing and once I got weird artifacts in GoW, kinda glowing red edges, then blue edges and they kinda got all mixed up and got worse and worse, stuff behid Guide-button looked the same.

Right heres the crack. It's NOT overheating or ventalation. I've ran some tests after reading an article in another forum and it looks like it's my HD or the information saved on the HD.
Heres whats hapend...... Removed HD and all/other USB devices. ran GoW for 20 minutes no lock ups (As now I cant even get into a game without it freezing even sometimes as soon as I turn on the machine, 20 minutes is great). Played GoW on different Profile (My Bro's) realised I cant play Online on a diff profile 'oh' I say to myself giving up hope of testing it properly until BEEP! lock up. So today I bought a MU moved my profile onto it, removed the HD with just my MU connected ran GoW and sure enough Locked up in the menus.

So the way I look at it is, If my HD's connected it freezes. so it must be my HD. But if I have a brand new MU and it freezes with my profile on there too, then its the information stored on my HD.

Heres my Dilema. If I reformat I lose all info, unless I store my profile on my MU and move it back onto my newly formatted HD. But if the Information is screwed then It'll do the same thing. So if I reformat and forget about my profiles/saves/games/n goodies then I lose everything I have to show for a year in gaming 360 style pluss all downloads I've bought..... and what about my Live account?????

I need help.... anyone any Ideas, thank's.

You can recover your Gamertag and it'll have your achievement points. You can redownload any content that you have bought for free.

This is what I would do [in order, obviously stopping once it works]:

1. Make another profile and try it with thta. Select to make a new Xbl account [you'll need a new email address for that] and select the 'Silver' option which will give you a one month free Gold trial which will automatically run out at the end of it. A new profile means that there won't be any saves related to it.

2. Then I would delete your profile, then revover it. You can still use the saves with it.

3. Then remove your GoW downloaded content. [Dashboard > System Blade > Memory > Saves or something like theat, then select GoW and delete the maps]

4. And as last option remove anything GoW related and see what that does.

Hope that helps. :)

Tried all the above carocat. just finished recovering my gamertag. after using a new profile with no success. froze on SC DA, GoW, Lost Planet, I mannaged to get a full match played on Pro Evo tho. But I cant say its the disc's because it freezes in dashboard also. I think it may be something to do with proccessing information between memory unit's and the rest of the machine.

It looks like I'll be giving MS another phone call tomorrow. Knew I shouldnt have sent it in for repairs in the first place.

Hmmm. So you've tried it with a brand new profile and no saves? That's every strange.

Good Luck.

My 360 goes to xbox hospital today, due to freezing:( . It started with Call of Duty 3 and Microsoft blamed it on the software so I never got to play through that. Then the other I started playing GRAW 2 and the bugger started freezing again. I called MSsupport and they didn't even question me they gave me a reference number and a day of collection. Has anyone else had this problem with their sexbox if so what happend and do you think I should moan until they give me a new xbox, I'm still under the 1 year warrenty.

Don't know about GRAW2, but CoD3 does freeze for many players occasionally. It does to me at least once if I play like 5-8 hours straight.

For antr0n,

You can try removing all cache and patches from your hard drive. You'll need to download all that content again though.

From IGN:

Patch Removal
When you remove the Xbox Live patches, you can do all the glitches that were patched, but this removes the patches for all of your games. No saved game data will be lost, but you will need to repatch everything when you sign-in to Xbox Live, as well as risk being stranded in a modded map that was removed.

1. Go to the system blade on the dashboard. Select memory and push the GREEN button.
2. Select hard drive. Press YELLOW to view device options.
3. When the page opens press BLUE, BLUE, LB, RB, BLUE, BLUE.
4. A message, "This will perform maintenance on your xbox 360 storage devices. Do you want to continue?" Select "yes" and press GREEN to execute.
5. Restart your Xbox 360 with the uninstall.

Applicable only to Xbox 360s with the HDD. Cold boot (power on) while holding the GREEN button to clear the HDD's cache. This should reduce the game's choppiness for a while.

I tried everything with call of duty 3. I cleared the cache and it still didn't work. It was freezing within 5 minutes of play and now its happening with GRAW 3. I heardthat there was a bad batch of 360s early last year which is when I brought mine so it could be that. Hopfully Microsoft will sort it out.

"Thats helpful."

Well what do you want anyone to do about it?

"Oh noes my 360 is acting up" - Guess what the answer is? Ring MS  As for a bad batch, 2 of mine that blew up were manufactured November 06.

LOL Azure, I can sense the venom behind those words.

Never had any problems on COD3, But I finished it before the 360 broke the first time. Its just strange. I turned it on after leaving it off two nights before boxing it up tonight for pick-up tomorrow. Turned on my TV and switched to component channel, just to be presented with a large 360 logo staring back at me..... Just staring...... right back at me....... Staring into my soul.........

I ****ing switched the ****ing thing off while biteing my lip and holding my foot back from putting it through.

BTW Mukelo...... First thing I tried m8.

Just got it back..... At last...... seems like an age.

It's all good ........ So far. No Idea what was causing the problem, but oh well.

LOADS of D/Lin to do, must press on.
