I've listened to both Disturbed and Offspring's new albums. And let's be honest Renegade, as relatively long-term fans of both bands, what do you think of their new albums?

Disturbed was a bit of a let down TBH - there doesn't seem to be the rhythm in the lyrical delivery that there used to be, it's not quite as punchy and doesn't have the same impact. The riffs are definitely there though - there aren't many bands that pull off pure guitar power like Disturbed.

Offspring - I'm a massive fan of them, since Ignition was released (which is my favourite Offspring album). Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace is a bit of a mixed bag - it definitely tries something different. The first 5 tracks are absolutely awesome - especially Half-Truism and A Lot Like Me. After that it's much poppier, with the two ballads (especially Kristy) being quite awkward and out of place. The problem is that throughout the album they seem to be trying the same formula that has worked for other bands - a little Panic!, a little Green Day (Rise and Fall is a clone copy of American Idiot), a little Linkin Park (A Lot Like Me is very similar to What I've Done), and even copying themselves (Nothingtown = Want You Bad). It's not that these songs are bad, it's just that it's not Offspring's style, and I don't know why they have done it. I think the first five tracks are their best since Smash, and after that they seem to be listening too much to their producer (Bob Rock, who hasn't exactly got a great reputation).

Lyrically I think the entire thing is their best since Smash/Ignition - it's just musically a little too clean cut to give weight to the lyrics. It's not a bad album at all, and it's definitely a grower. It just loses it's way.

I'm also quite fond of Stoned Raiders as well. It's not the kind of stuff you'd expect to hear when your out clubbing, but for when your sat about the house it's pretty damn smart.
