Well, I would've suggested R6, but you're not interested in it....
Dead Rising is a great game, however it can be tedious replaying the first bit. I've been playing the game for maybe 10 hours over the last few weeks and all I've done really is constantly replayed the first bit to level up my character. Basically youcan save your stats when you die and I want to have a high level character before I start playing properly.
It's a lot of fun though, especially running over zombies or killing them with a bowling ball and so on. The save system is bad-ish. You can save in toilets and the sofa in the security office which means that you have to be very careful that you don't die, but it adds to the whole game experience of being trapped in a mall with no way out.
There are many small things that are great, like several killing methods and different food and some very disturbing cutscenes. I also like the fact that it can have just so many enemies on screen.
[B]Viva Pinata is a good game once you get past level 16. Essentially you breed pinatas, build a garden, level up, your garden gets bigger and so on. It has some lovely animations of the pinatas, some hilarious breeds and is full of little things that have obviously been thought out.
I haven't touched the game in a few weeks now [level 30], but it is definitely worth it. The question is just how longliving you want it. So far I've put in maybe 8-10 hours and I'm about 3/4 through. Basically from what I've heard, once you complete it, there isn't much of an incentive to go back to it. Have a look at the Viva Pinata Wki (http://pinataisland.info/index.php?title=Main_Page) to see just how much can be done.
Saint's Row I expected to be a lot better than it actually was. I love GTA II, Vice City and like San Andreas and SR is very much a direct rip off of GTA. Radio stations have similar names/mottos, people on the street have the whole shouting at you thing going and it's full of 'you're from the street/gangsta/hip hop. The whole time I was playing the game I thought to myself just how they got away with such a rippoff.
Co op is meant to be good, but I got the game just after release and there were too many lagproblems, so I never really played it online.
The Graphics are shiny and if you like the whole Gangsta thing you should get it. And it does have some fun activities! [Activities up your respect level to unlock main missions] Have a look around though, I'm sure you can get it for cheaper these days. Oh and there's a demo on marketplace.
I haven't played Crackdown, so I can't comment on that. Have a look in our Crackdown section (http://community.matchbox360.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=62).
Hope that helps. :)
I don't have time to preach too much, but I'd skip Saint's Row. Dead Rising and Viva are similar in their nature of open ended achievements to target, which does offer longevity. Dead Rising's are far more tricky to pull off though, so you'll be playing the game for quite some time to get close to all 50 achievements. Crackdown is great, if you're a gold live member and have a buddy who wants to muck around too! :)

Personally. I really enjoyed Saints Row. I have always been a fan of the GTA series etc, and boght this knowing for well that it was basically a complete rip off of that. When you alrady know that then you notice the differences, and the fact that it is more gang orientated, I really enjoyed the game and found myself really wanting to go back and play it. I didnt think the storyline was half bad, it kept me entertained and along with other things to do i really enjoyed the game.
Dead rising is possibly one of the best games ive ever played, especially in terms of longievety, it can really keep you enthrawled if you get involved, although i found it could get very frustrating at times with a few issues that it has, including obviously, as you mentioned, the very annoying save feature. Deffinitely worth getting though in my opinion.
I wouldnt recommend Viva Pinata as a longievety game, unless your... Well a complete achievement whore. (see above) ;) I found that although the game was alright, it got very boring and long winded to do anything, unless you really want the achievements, in which case, you are more likely to keep playing until it is less frustrating. Very addictive gaming though. Personally not for me as i have very little interest in gaming achievements unless i want to actually do it..
Hope that helps.
Thanks for the info.
Yeah I'm not really an achievement whore I only go for achievements if I want to do the task regardless.
A couple of Qs, How long does it take to complete DR on the first time through and how likely is it that you'll unlock the unlimited mode on first play through?
Are there moments in DR where you are actually stuck and where it's actually difficult to get past Zombies and you have to hide or is it all like the demo where you are just cutting your way through Zombies?
In Viva, do you have to do a large amount of repetitive tasks in order to keep your pinatas happy or is it good with changing what you have to do? How difficult is it?
Saints row, how long did it take you to beat the story?

Well, I haven't completed DR yet, so I can't say. So far I haven't been stuck, but I haven't played all that properly. I think in the demo lets you play as a level 10 character, so you'll have to work your way up to that.
Yes, Viva Pinata is repetitive, but any simulation/world building game is. You get a new breed, need to work to make them residents [1-4 requirements need to be fulfilled], then work on getting them to romance [again, fulfilling 1-4 requirements] and so on. I liked it and it was very enjoyable when I played it an entire Sunday. That however was weeks ago and since then I haven't felt the urge to pick it up. It isn't difficult, but can be slow on occasion.
I gave up on the SR story quite early on, did some more activities, got bored and sold the game. So, I don't know, sorry.
Hope that helps. :)

I know you have a Wii, what games do you have? and I can do some recommending from that route too otherwise dead rising.
Read Ignition360's (http://www.ignition360.co.uk/issues) review on deadrising if you want a look at why the save system is not a bad feature at all.
Dead rising is issue 6
Viva Pinata is issue 7

Pong.

Wii-wise I've only got Zelda and super monkey ball. Is there really anything good on the wii that you can play for more than 5 minutes at a time? At the moment my wii's used as the world's most expensive news reader... I'd love to play something good on it.
The dead rising review was really helpful and I'm leaning towards getting it but how big a problem is the text size (since I don't have a HD tv) and how hard is it to earn infinite time mode? Also there was no mention here of how long it takes to beat the 72 hour mode?

In dead rising 24 hours is 2 hours real time, so 72 is 6 hours :)
Not including cut scenes, toilet breaks, restarting because your a low level etc :D

Have to highly recommend Crackdown. Really didnt fancy this at first, as I thought its not my type of game. But after being totally hooked on it since I’ve bought it, its been the most surprising and enjoyable game since GOW, and I definately feel its worth its 9/10 its scored all over the place.
Its probably not the longest game in the world, but can easily be extended through co-op, races, finding everything, and also just experimenting with what you can get up to, such as jumps, explosions and all sorts. It just feels like a polished game, and I have to admit, its the best and most fun game world I’ve ever been in. The developer’s obviously just wanted the game to be one thing, and that it achieves easily, and thats fun by the shed load. What have you always wanted to do, blow things up making massive explosions, jump literally everywhere on the map, drive like a mad man through the streets - its just got a bit of everything.
Trust me, if you havent got this, you really are missing out, and of course to add longtevity to the game, you have still got the Halo 3 BETA added in for good measure.
A little bit off, but have you played Hitman?
I played the demo and I found it a little too linear for what I hoped it to be. However I did like the style of the game.

The demo disappointed me a lot, it is extremely linear and boring. However, that is nothing, absolutely nothing, compared to the full game. It has an interesting background storyline, varied missions [from New Orleans to an Opera house and many, many other locations] and there are very different ways to kill people. Plus of course weapon and gadget upgrades. You can get it for around 15-20quid now if you look around.
If you combine that with Dead Rising which you should be able to pick up online for around 30quid, you can get both games [possibly] and have two very good games.
Problem sorted? :)

Have to agree with you there carocat, the demo does absolutley no justice to the full game at all. I wasnt sold on the demo at all and in fact wouldnt of bought it. But I’m so glad I did, there’s more to do, and once you see all the other areas in the game, you realise what an excellently designed game it is.
Honestly, if your discounting it because of the demo, then your missing out on one of the best 360 games so far, seriously.
As for the co-op, I’d read a lot of places that it needs to be played in co-op to be enjoyed to the max. I disagree, I’ve played through two thirds of the game on my own, and have loved every bit of it.
I tried some co-op yesterday, and yes it is good fun, and adds another dimension to it and some legtevity, but in no accounts is it a must to play it this way.
Just forget about the demo, buy the game, play it for 2-3 hours, and then you’ll realise what the Crack is!
For me the sign of a good game, is one that your eager to get home from work to play, a game which makes me put Halo 2 and PES to the side, and a game which your already hoping and thinking about the sequal. For me, I’ve only enjoyed a few games on the 360, GOW, Splinter Cell, COD2 (single player), and now Crackdown. So its in the list of games that are memorable 360 games for me. Not only that, its probably the most orginal 360 game to date, all the talk of GTA clone is really unfair, as its so much better, and definately takes the Sandbox formula to another level, the freedom is amazing, and they have accomplished all aspects, driving, shooting, exploring in such a more fun and exciting way.

I'm confused, are you talking about Hitman or Crackdown or both there? :p
I agree with you on Splinter Cell as well, Turtle. Have you played Splinter Cell, bowserboy? That has an excellent single player modus.
Pong.

Pong is a brilliant game :D
Closely followed by overboard! In fact... overboard was much better. I reccomend overboard! But if you want a 360 game... erm... PGR? Halo 3?

Hitman is a brilliant game. The demo seems linear because its the training level and they are simply introducing you to the tools you will be using through the rest of the game (you can still experiment in the demo however).
Viva Pinata is a good game but for me its the sort of game I would only play for the achievement points, once thats done there is nothing to keep me coming back.
Crackdown is brilliant fun but as the game has no structure it will only last you as long as you want it to. You could probably finish most of the game in a couple of days and unless you would be playing in co-op there wouldn't be much to pull you back in.
Oblivion is an exceptional single player game and would get my vote but for all the bugs and glitches in it.
Dead Rising is the only game I can wholeheartedly recommend for the XB360.
The main story CAN be played through on your first try (you may need to retry some sections) but some gamers find it too testing and rely on restarting and levelling up. The beauty of the game is its unique structure and replay value. There is no possible way you would be able to do everything on your first play through due to a combination of not enough time and your character not being good enough but don't let that deter you.
The save system is not flawed. There is a save point in nearly every area of the mall its just that people generally forget that they can save in the toilets and rely on the security room as there one save spot.
In game text can be a problem but if you've missed something you can bring up your wris****ch to review the current cases and get an eternally scrolling text bar summing up the mission for you.
Easily one of the most original and best titles on the 360 to date. I wasn't sure that it was all I was hoping for until my third playthrough when it became less of a chore and suddenly became the zombie filled playground I was after.
Well thanks for all the advice guys, I've ordered Hitman and will probably get Dead Rising when I'm finished with it.
(already played through Oblivion, it's the only game I got 1000 of the points for)

Wasn't Overboard for the Playstation 1? I remember playing something like around my friends house many years ago. It had mini ships which you could set on fire with a flamethrower thing nd Pirate ship cannons. It was lots of fun:)

Nope, ask Liam about it's origins. It came from a Biology lesson in year 8.
