We're switching providers soon and I've been looking for new provider. Came across this from Orange today:

Yeah im with BT paying some rediculous amount of money for a supposedly 8 meg connection when im only getting 1.7 something, and my line is capable for a 6 meg connection.

It is probably a genuine offer, and sounds pretty good. Orange have lost alot of custom recently and this seems a great way to get people back on their services.

You need to get a phone contract with them I believe and it is capped quite heavily, as most services are now.

Talk talk is out of the eqation, we're not going to go with them.

My hosemate has an Orange contract and he was considering going with them anyway. They offer something like 10 quid a month for existing Orange customers.

Not bad, just check the cap, you dont want to be stuck with a 2Gb cap!

Hmm, still not too convinced, their site (http://freebb.orange.co.uk/offerinfo/comparebb.cfm?bbProduct=unlimited) is talking about unlimited with a fair usage polivy.

I still think it sounds too good. 8meg broadband, free phonecalls, no cap. Where is the catch?

The fair uage policy, ask for a copy of the policy before signing up.

Looking round their rather annoying site come up with a imo very vague section:

Fair Use Policy for Broadband

If you're on either our unlimited or uncapped broadband service then our Fair Use Policy applies to you.

Why have one?
Well it's designed to make sure your broadband service is fast and reliable whenever you use it.

Some of our broadband customers use file sharing software and download large files like music and videos. This uses up lots of network capacity leaving less available for you. If they're doing this at peak times, it could mean that the speed of your broadband service will be affected.

Am I likely to be affected by the Fair Use Policy?
If you don't use file sharing software or download large files from the Internet it's unlikely you'll ever be affected by this policy. If you do, all we ask is that you do so considerately, perhaps by downloading outside the peak hours of 6pm to 11pm.

What will happen if my use is very high?
If you only occasionally have very high usage, we're unlikely to be concerned unless it becomes a regular occurrence. If this does happen then we'll get in touch to help you find ways to reduce your usage.

If your usage continues to be very high, we'll get in touch again. Ultimately, if your usage still remains excessive despite our attempts to help you reduce it, we may have to suspend your service and possibly close your account.

We don't want to do that, and with your support and goodwill we'll work with you to see if we can avoid this happening.
Well, we have learned from our current provider and don't download during peak times (Plusnets are from 4pm-midnight), but there is still 4 people using the internet and 2 gaming in the evenings. We use about 20GB a month (peak time, you don't want to know how much off peak ;))

Thoughts, please?

I'd go with a proper supplier, Pipex get good reviews and are clear with their usage policy.

Well, it's too late. Turns out my housemate wanted to go with this for months now. Let's see if it lives up to it.
